This Original Acrylic Painting on Stretched Canvas was created to signify the completion of college by Michael Smetana. He received his Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering in May 2014 and completed this Acrylic painting later in the same month.
The man with stretched arms on top of the world is a metaphor for the success he felt for this major accomplishment.
The background is a representation of a famous painting by Caspar David Fridrich titled “The Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog”.
The two images if compared side by side show two distinct artistic styles. The original by Caspar shows how a man can reach the top but on the way there he confronts nature and themselves. Michaels painting shows the joy of the act.
